What Gets Synced
Once connected, Hostmatic pulls:
- Visitors and sessions — Total and unique visitor counts
- Traffic sources — Where your visitors come from (organic, social, direct, referral, email)
- Conversion events — Booking starts, purchases, form submissions, and other configured events
- Page views — Which pages visitors view and which page they landed on
- Device data — Desktop, mobile, or tablet
- Geographic data — Visitor locations by country
How far back Hostmatic syncs depends on your plan: 90 days on Free, 180 days on Weekend host, 365 days on Pro host.
Step-by-Step: Connect GA4
Only property admins and owners can connect or disconnect integrations. Everyone else sees the button disabled with "Only admins can manage integrations."
- Click Integrations in the sidebar
- Find the Google Analytics card (yellow bar chart icon)
- Click the Connect button
- You're taken to Google's sign-in page — sign in with the Google account that has access to your GA4 property. Google sends you back to Integrations when you're done.
- A success message appears: "Successfully connected to Google! Fetching your accounts..."
- In the Step 1: Select Google Analytics Account dropdown (placeholder: "Choose a Google Analytics account..."), select your account
- In the Step 2: Select GA4 Property dropdown (placeholder: "Choose a GA4 property..."), select the property you want to track. Only data from this property is synced.
- Hostmatic confirms: "[Property Name] is now connected. Syncing your data..."
The connection uses OAuth with read-only access, so Hostmatic never sees your Google password and can't change anything in GA4. You can revoke access at any time.
Once connected, the card shows "Connected to [account] (Property: [property])" and a Set up booking events (begin_checkout, purchase) link that opens the event setup wizard.
Syncing Data
Right after you pick a property, Hostmatic runs a first sync. After that, data refreshes on a daily schedule. You can also sync manually:
- Go to Dashboard in the sidebar
- Click the Sync button (circular arrow icon) near the top-right
- Wait for the sync to complete — a "Last synced" timestamp updates when done
The Dashboard Sync button only refreshes Google Analytics. It's disabled when GA4 isn't connected, and hidden entirely on Airbnb-only accounts. To sync a PMS, use Sync Now on that integration's card or the Sync button on the Reports Overview page.
The first sync after connecting shows a "Sync Complete — Your analytics data is ready." notification. A manual sync from the Dashboard just refreshes the numbers and the Last synced time. If it fails, a red banner explains why, and the Google Analytics card shows "Last sync failed: …" with "Try syncing again or reconnect your Google Analytics account."
If the connection drops entirely, the Dashboard shows a red "Google Analytics disconnected — it stopped collecting data" banner with a Reconnect Google Analytics button. If GA4 is still connected but hasn't synced in 14 days or more, Hostmatic kicks off a resync for you when you open the dashboard.
Tip: If you notice stale data, click the sync button. GA4 itself can take 24–48 hours to finalize recent data.
Setting Up Events
For the richest analytics, configure conversion events in GA4 that match your booking flow:
- Page-view events — Track when visitors reach confirmation or thank-you pages
- Click events — Track when visitors click booking buttons
- E-commerce events — Track the full purchase funnel (view_item, begin_checkout, purchase)
If you haven't set up events yet, use the Event Mapper during onboarding, or the Set up booking events link on your connected Google Analytics card at any time.
Requirements
- A GA4 property (Universal Analytics is not supported)
- At least Viewer access to the GA4 property — Hostmatic only reads data
- Google Analytics is not included on the Free plan. Weekend host and Pro host include it.
Troubleshooting
No data after connecting
- Verify your GA4 property is receiving data (check GA4 directly)
- Click the sync button on the Dashboard to pull the latest data
- Ensure your website has the GA4 tracking tag installed
"Connection expired. Please reconnect."
- Google OAuth tokens can expire. Go to Integrations in the sidebar, find Google Analytics, and click Reconnect.
Wrong property selected
- Go to Integrations, click Disconnect on Google Analytics, then reconnect and select the correct GA4 property.
"No Google Analytics accounts found"
- Full message: "No Google Analytics accounts found. Please ensure your Google account has access to a GA4 property." Check permissions in GA4 Admin.
Upgrade required
- If you see "Upgrade Required" with a lock icon instead of a Connect button, you're on the Free plan. The message reads "Google Analytics integration is not available on your current plan ([plan])" with an Upgrade to unlock link.
