How to Access

The WiFi QR Code Generator is at /tools/wifi-qr. It isn't in the sidebar: Tools → WiFi Pages opens the newer WiFi Pages tool, which also produces WiFi QR codes. The generator page shows a banner with a Switch to WiFi Pages link.

Step-by-Step: Create a WiFi QR Code

1. Enter Network Details

Fill in the form fields, in this order:

  • Network Name (SSID) — Your WiFi network name exactly as it appears on your router
  • Security Type — WPA/WPA2 (Recommended), WEP (Legacy), or Open Network (No Password)
  • Password — Required for WPA/WPA2 and WEP; the field is hidden when you choose Open Network
  • Hidden network (SSID not broadcast) — Tick this if your network doesn't broadcast its name

If you leave the SSID blank you'll see "Please enter a WiFi network name (SSID)", and a secured network without a password shows "Please enter a password for secured networks".

2. Generate the QR Code

Click the Generate QR Code button. Your QR code appears immediately in the QR Code Preview card, along with the network name and security type.

3. Download or Copy

  • Click Download to save the QR code as a PNG (wifi-qr-{network-name}.png)
  • Click Copy to copy the QR image to your clipboard for pasting into designs

The code carries a small Hostmatic logo in the centre.

Nothing is saved. The generator keeps no history, so refreshing the page loses the code.

Where to Display Your QR Code

  • Welcome guide — Include in your printed or digital guest guide
  • Fridge magnet — Print on a magnet for easy kitchen access
  • Framed card — Place a framed QR code on the nightstand or desk
  • Entry area — Mount near the front door so guests can connect immediately

Tip: Print the QR code at least 2 inches (5 cm) square for easy scanning. Add a label like "Scan to connect to WiFi" so guests know what it does.

How Guests Use It

Guests open their phone camera (or Google Lens) and scan the QR code. This is a standard Wi-Fi-config QR code that joins the network directly — most phones will offer to connect once they read it.

This eliminates the most common guest question: "What's the WiFi password?"

Note: This tool generates a standard Wi-Fi connection QR code. For a branded guest landing page with email capture and upsells, see the WiFi Pages tool.

Branded WiFi Landing Pages

For a guest landing page with email capture, upsells, and white-label options, use the separate WiFi Pages tool. WiFi Pages create branded pages that open when guests scan a QR code, with optional:

  • Email capture (Weekend Host or higher) — Ask the guest for their email before revealing the password
  • Upsell cards (Weekend Host or higher) — Promote nearby restaurants, tours, or your services
  • White-label (Pro Host) — Hide the "Powered by Hostmatic" footer and set your own theme, font, and colors

See the WiFi Pages article for details.

WiFi Pages produces a dual-QR print sheet with a WiFi connection code and a code for your page side by side. See the WiFi Pages article for details.

The Tools menu has a single WiFi Pages entry — there are no separate menu items for the QR generator and the page manager. The generator stays reachable at /tools/wifi-qr.

Tips

  • Update if you change your password — This tool doesn't save anything, so re-enter the network details, generate a new code, and replace the old printouts
  • Test it first — Scan the code with your own phone before giving it to guests
  • Use a guest network — Consider setting up a separate WiFi network for guests to keep your main network secure
